چکیده

Plaque morphology in a diseased coronary artery plays a significant role in the modification of the fluid flow characteristics. The plaque morphology of forty-two patients who underwent IVUS (intravascular ultrasound) procedure was quantified by degree of membership in four fuzzy logic sets, which we refer as type I: protruding, type II: ascending, type III: descending, and type IV: diffuse. Of 42 cases, 28% were of type I, 18% type II, 20% type III and 23% type IV, 6% belonged to hybrid types (partial members of multiple types) and the remaining 5% did not fit in any category. The degree of membership is of significance as the inter-class blood flow patterns (those strongly members of the same set) are similar to each other compared to the intra-class behavior, indicating plaque morphology (shape of blockage) is an important metric in addition to the degree of stenosis to represent the flow characteristics in a diseased stenotic coronary artery.

Functional assessment of coronary artery disease by intravascular ultrasound and computational fluid dynamics simulation.

Clinical trials have shown that functional assessment of coronary stenosis by fractional flow reserve (FFR) improves clinical outcomes. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) complements conventional angiography, and is a powerful tool to assess atherosclerotic plaques and to guide percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation represents a novel method for the...

Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease using Neuro-fuzzy-based Method

Background & Aim: Coronary artery disease is one of the most common diseases in different societies. Coronary angiography is established as one of the best methods for diagnosis of this disease. Angiography is an invasive and costly method. Furthermore, it is associated with risks such as death, heart attack, and stroke. Thus, this study introduces a neuro-fuzzy-based method which can help the ...

Role of grey-scale intravascular ultrasound and ChromaFlo in deciding on treatment approach for spontaneous coronary dissection in a young woman.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute coronary syndromes. We present the case of a young woman with an acute coronary syndrome caused by SCAD, where grey-scale intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and ChromaFlo were instrumental in deciding against interventional treatment. The patient's urgent angiogram gave the impression of a spiral dissection in the right coronar...

Dynamical formation control of wheeled mobile robots based on fuzzy logic

In this paper, the important formation control problem of nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots is investigated via a leader-follower strategy. To this end, the dynamics model of the considered wheeled mobile robot is derived using Lagrange equations of motion. Then, using ADAMS multi-body simulation software, the obtained dynamics of the wheeled system in MATLAB software is verified. After that, ...

MULTI CLASS BRAIN TUMOR CLASSIFICATION OF MRI IMAGES USING HYBRID STRUCTURE DESCRIPTOR AND FUZZY LOGIC BASED RBF KERNEL SVM

Medical Image segmentation is to partition the image into a set of regions that are visually obvious and consistent with respect to some properties such as gray level, texture or color. Brain tumor classification is an imperative and difficult task in cancer radiotherapy. The objective of this research is to examine the use of pattern classification methods for distinguishing different types of...
